KEY STATISTICS FY2026
Zawar Mines near Udaipur are among the world’s oldest zinc mining and smelting sites, with over 2,500 years of legacy. Renowned for pioneering early zinc distillation techniques, they reflect India’s advanced ancient metallurgical capabilities. Today, Zawar seamlessly blends rich industrial heritage with modern, large-scale mining, playing a key role in India’s zinc production and mineral security. Certified with ISO 45001, 14001, 50001, and 9001, and with four mines – Mochia, Balaria, Zawarmala, and Baroi – having a combined R&R base of 166 Mnt and an ore production capacity of 4.8 Mtpa, it is evolving into one of the largest integrated mining complexes.
Operational and Strategic Developments
Ramping up productivity and throughput
- Balaria Mine crossed a landmark of 1 Mtpa production
- Baroi Mine achieved the highest-ever mined metal production of 67 kt and a record 65 MT mined silver production through mining of challenging narrow vein lenses
- Expanded Mochia-Balaria cluster by commencing ore production from the new area of Rawa in the western part and the 9E lens in the eastern part
Infrastructure and mine development
- Commissioned a 500 KW exhaust fan at Central Baroi surface, enhancing air capacity by 150 m3/s to 450 m3/s, thereby improving ventilation
- First-ever remote operation of the underground pump at Mochia mine from the surface with real-time monitoring
Safety and environmental developments
- Established a visualised emergency response system for the shaft at West Mochia Mine, enhancing safety standards and emergency response capabilities
- Established Hindustan Zinc’s longest raise of 600.2 m at Balaria Mine, improving the mine environment condition
- Introduced hydro filling in Balaria Mine, which will increase tailings utilisation from 17% to 25% and minimise waste footprint
- Replaced conventional ammonium nitrate-based charging practices with bulk emulsion charging for safety and productivity improvements
Received the CII-ITC and Federation of Indian Mineral Industries (FIMI) Hindalco award for environmental excellence and sustainable mining.
Enabling Hindustan Zinc’s 2x Growth Plan
Actions planned
- Accelerated exploration and development of new mines
- Adding new beneficiation and paste filling plants
- Rapid decline development and ventilation capacity buildup
