KEY STATISTICS FY2026
Sindesar Khurd Mine (SKM), recognised as the world’s sixth largest silver producer, is a flagship asset of Hindustan Zinc’s portfolio and a cornerstone of its 2.0 transformation. Located in Rajasthan’s Rajsamand district, its silver-rich polymetallic deposits and rapidly advancing digital infrastructure are redefining the boundaries of underground mining excellence. Certified ISO 9001, 14001, 45001, and 50001, alongside a 5-star rating from the Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM), the mine is evolving into a high-tech, high-velocity mining ecosystem.
Operational and Strategic Developments
Ramping throughput and productivity
- Achieved the highest-ever mine development of 27.6 km
- Scaled ventilation capacity to 1,950 m3/hr and established a 400 m3/s chiller unit to support efficient operations at deeper levels
- Debottlenecked the secondary crushing system in the beneficiation plant, improving throughput (from 460 TPH to 520 TPH) and reliability of the crushing system
Infrastructure and mine development
- Set global benchmark with the commissioning of the world’s first tele-remote raise bore operation
- Upgraded the 1.05 km production shaft with high-tensile CASAR Germany wire ropes, a critical enabler for the 2x expansion
Technology and digitalisation
- Implemented a digital LLP (life loss prevention) system to optimise asset reliability
- Automated ventilation fan speed reduction during shift changes, significantly lowering power consumption without compromising air quality
Safety and Environmental Stewardship
- Deployed an advanced collision avoidance system (CAS) across the underground fleet to reduce man-machine interaction risk
- Expanded seismic monitoring with five new sensors for enhanced event detection and coverage
- Introduced a battery electric vehicle (BEV) Charmec, furthering the decarbonisation of underground operations
- Earned a Silver Rating in GreenCo certification, validating our commitment to environmentally conscious mining practices
SKM is setting new benchmarks in Industry 4.0 while accelerating next-generation mine development, ready to catalyse the next phase of HZL 2.0.
Enabling Hindustan Zinc’s 2x Growth Plan
Actions planned
- Increasing hoisting capacity from 3.75 Mtpa to 4.0 Mtpa, with improved rate of descent to access new auxiliary lenses
- Expanding beneficiation capacity from 6.75 Mtpa to 7.5 Mtpa by debottlenecking secondary crushing and grinding circuits
- Onboarding an expat production manager to introduce global mining best practices
- Implementing advanced tailings storage facility (TSF) management to support volume leadership alongside operational resilience and sustainability
Targeted ore production capacity by FY2029, up from 6.0 Mtpa
